If you read and follow the directions included with them then they will not stick up above your speakers. I installed them myself and they are somewhere around the middle of the speaker in the back. Upon opening the package and reading the simple instructions, I was impressed by the overall design. So far, I only went as far as attaching the brackets to the speakers, a simple job using 2 screws. However, presently being in a foot cast, I've not yet attached the brackets to the wall. That also seems like a very simple task.
